Interview with KM Building carpenter Mārtiņš: precision, mountain homes and craftsmanship that lasts
Apr 29, 2026
Every mountain cabin begins with people. The ones who arrive early on site, check every connection with care and make sure future homeowners can feel calm and confident in their new retreat. This time, we spoke with KM Building carpenter Mārtiņš - a craftsman whose connection with log homes started already in childhood.
What inspired you to become a carpenter and how did your path lead you to KM Building?
Log houses interested me already when I was a child. My father was also a log house craftsman, so I learned a lot about building from an early age. It felt natural to continue in this field. I chose construction as my profession, and working with KM Building also meant staying relatively close to home, which made the decision even easier.
Precision is essential in log house construction. Which part of the building process do you enjoy the most and why?
I especially enjoy roof construction. Every roof is different and has its own details and solutions. That makes the work interesting. It’s the stage where craftsmanship really shows and where you can achieve a strong and beautiful final result.
Is there a particular house or moment on site that has stayed with you as especially memorable?
The greatest satisfaction comes when the house is completed and the new owners are happy with the result. That’s the moment when I understand the work was truly worth it. And of course, it also means it’s time to head home for a well-deserved holiday.
How do you spend your free time outside work? Do you have hobbies that connect you with nature in the same way as your job?
I really enjoy mushroom picking, even though I don’t actually eat mushrooms myself. I like being in the forest and spending time outdoors. I also recently started participating in off-road competitions, which brings a different kind of excitement and challenge.
Imagine someone in Norway or Sweden is planning their very first mountain cabin today. What would you like them to know about the people at KM Building who will build it?
In my opinion, the people at KM Building are very knowledgeable and full of ideas. We always find solutions to important situations that can arise during construction. Clients can feel confident that their home is being built by experienced professionals who truly care about quality.
A mountain cabin is more than a building. It becomes a place for quiet mornings with panoramic views, evenings by the fireplace and weekends spent close to nature with family and friends.
That’s why every detail matters, and why behind every KM Building home stands a team that builds with care, precision and pride.
